camp as athletes received daily monitoring and testing. He was

NDC Adopt an Athlete Program
Do you need help around your house, camp, or place of business
and cannot find the time to get it done. NDC Thunder Bay has
started a great program that can help you get the job done!
Sleep, eat, team practice, strength
training, travel, competition, eat, sleep repeat…. Members of
the National Development Centre (NDC) Thunder Bay cross country
ski team dedicate on average 20-30 hours a week to training and
racing. Add in weekend travel to races and there is little time
to take on part time jobs to offset the cost of team fees and
travel expenses.
Financial assistance is critical to
maintaining the tradition of excellence of the NDC Thunder Bay.
The Adopt an Athlete program provides the opportunity for you to
help offset some of the cost associated with training and racing
at the national level and here’s a bonus - get some much needed
projects done around the house, camp or business. Let’s face it,
we all have things that need to get done and never seem to find
the time to do them. This program is a great way for former team
alumni, friends, family and the community to be a part of the
long standing tradition of excellence of the NDC Thunder Bay.
With your generous support we can continue the commitment of
excellence that has allowed the NDC to turn today’s developing
skiers into tomorrow’s aspiring Olympic Champion.
Please see the
attached document for more information on this program
or call Amanda at 626-2224 for more details.

SHIELDS GRABS SILVER IN HALIFAX
Andy
Shields, a first year member of the National Development Centre
- Thunder Bay team claimed a silver medal at the Canada Winter
Games in the 1000m skate sprint. Shields, who lives and trains
out of Thunder Bay proved he is now becoming one of the best all
around skiers for his age in Canada. Shields had a great race
today and the snow conditions seemed to play in his favour.
Shields commented after his race, “The snow conditions took a
change from yesterday - there were some really soft, 'sugary'
sections on the course. I was able to float over them not too
badly and it probably turned out to be an advantage for me."
Shields just edged out Michael Somppi in the quarter finals and
unfortunately eliminated Somppi from the heats. Somppi is not
losing any hope for a gold medal which he hopes to bring home in
the 15km classic race taking place on Thursday. He stated after
Tuesday's skate race, "I'm very happy with the result but I am
still hungry for a gold." It's going to be an exciting rest of
the week to see what Team Ontario and the National Development
Centre can do!
