Andrea Lee
Birthplace: Black Creek, BC
Residence: Black Creek, BC
Age: 21
Home Club: Strathcona Nordics
Years in skiing: 19
Years on NDC: 2nd
Racing Category: Senior Women (U23)
Although Andrea is a long
way from her Vancouver Island home she is surrounded by athletes
and new team mates that she has known for years through her
extensive experience in cross country skiing. Qualifying for
the NDC this season will help Andrea realize her athletic goal
of one day competing in Europe for Canada.
The most memorable moment in
Andrea’s skiing career was the first time she medaled at the
Canadian National Championships which was in 2007. When she
first started racing, standing on the podium seemed like such a
far off endeavour for Andrea but when she finally stood on the
podium at Nationals, it was a turning point for her since she
now realized that all the hard work and perseverance really did
pay off. Since that memorable moment, Andrea has made a couple
of more trips to the podium at Nationals.
With a lot of hard training
and good results over the next couple of racing seasons she
hopes one day to race on the World Cup circuit.
While not training or racing
Andrea is in her second year at Lakehead University working
towards a degree in biology. She also enjoys snowboarding,
downhill skiing, and spending time with friends and family.
She is inspired by triathlete Simon Whitfield and his silver
medal performance in Beijing which Andrea thinks was “so gutsy
and inspiring.”
Her favourite quote, “most
people run a race to see who is fastest, I run a race to see who
has the most guts”, which was said by US track star Steve
Prefontaine. |
