Chris Hamilton
Birthplace: Thunder Bay
Residence: Thunder Bay
Age: 22
Home Club: Big Thunder Nordic Ski Club
Years in skiing: 16; 9 in racing
Years on NDC: 3
Racing Category: Senior Men (U23)
Chris spent most of his adolescence running
and skiing in his hometown of Thunder Bay followed by two years
on the Lakehead University Ski Team. There he earned two OUA
Champion titles and earned a gold medal at the 2009 CCUNC
Championships with Scott Sullivan in the Team Sprint. Chris has
silver medals at the Canadian Nationals as a junior in pursuit
and relay events. As a runner, a highlight for Chris is a 9th
place finish at the 2008 Winnipeg Marathon.
His goal for the coming season is to
finish in the top 20 multiple times on the NorAm circuit. Chris’
longer term goals are to qualify for an Under 23 World
Championships and for a domestic World Cup in 2012 and
eventually the National Senior Development Team and World Cup
Team.
Chris notes himself as the “most crash prone skier in Canada”, a
title that has little to do with his outstanding accomplishments
to date which include being the Ontario University Association
Overall Male Champion in Nordic Skiing for both the 2007/08 and
2008/09 seasons.
Chris notes that both of his grandfathers taught him a lot about
sportsmanship and work ethic since they too were athletes in
their early years. He also admires US snowboarder star, Shaun
White, who Chris thinks is one of the greatest natural athletes
in the world, excelling in almost every sport that he tries. |
